Arindal Bards

You know, I haven't found a bard part in many, many years. Granted, lately, I haven't been playing that much, but in the years I played lots, I found not one single instrument part.

I'd say either make instrument parts far more plentiful or retrain Hendrux so he only facilitates your instrument creation.

The creation of the instrument or the acquiring of one should be pretty much a non-issue. If I want to specialize in the writing of songs for any particular instrument, there should be a way for me to get one, without undue frustration. I've always found the instrument-making part of the game a flawed and pointless concept. It's about the music, not, as someone else put it, "Item Lord." Give the bards the instrument they want and then consider the music and the effort.

Original music in Clan Lord is a very, very amazing and wonderful thing. I remember when it was first introduced I was ecstatic. I wrote a ton of songs for all sorts of instruments that CLTH allowed, only to find out that instrument parts were few and Hendrux prohibitive. I played and wrote for the reed flute for a very long time, much to my great dismay.

I don't want to RP a pissed-off bard who can't get the instrument I'd like to play. I'd like to RP the bard who loves to play the instrument of his dreams, much to the delight of others around him. I have enough frustration in RL dealing with creative obstacles that I shouldn't have to put up with them in game. To inhibit a bard's expression by creating needless barricades only dampens the spirit of clanners that much more.

I'm happy to see efforts being made to get to the heart of what is important to being a Bard.

I'd really like a Gitor, because maybe then I'd finish my questing and actually write songs for it. I wish there were a plug in for some music apps to write this stuff though. I have a hard time using the music app an keeping my focus on writing. The problem stems from the fact that I really don't know much about scales and what sound the notes actually make. I need ear training and the built in CL bard tests are pretty cool, I just wish there was an in game music class where I could be ear trained and I could learn the scales and such.

Well, I have a torjo (I think). Or it might be a gitor. Regardless, I rarely use it, and if you want it, it's yours.

Well, I have been looking for parts for well on eight (ooc) years, and I've found a grand total of (I think) one. (And that's with me being around for many many hours a week, sometimes - years ago - actively looking for parts!) Of course, that was during the time where there were excessive numbers of parts everywhere, so Maz turned the acceptance rate down to zero, and it was not accepted.

So getting parts is mostly luck, tempered by sales and friendships. The more people know of you, the more friends you have, the more parts fall into your lap. At my peak of barding, when I was around almost every night playing, people I didn't even know would come up and give me parts to try because they knew of and had heard my music. Fun stuff. I need to get out more now, clearly.

But yeah, I think something might be done about Hendrux. We'll see...

I can't resist to add to the side topic of this thread: Now, half a year after the big "going-commercial storm", somebody finally found the very first shell ever (required for the Konshell, our Conch). He was kind enough to give it to me, and I gave it to our instrument builder, Simin Hur. What did that guy do? Of course he complained about the quality, and sacked it!
On the other hand, the lands are swamped with bones for our Bone Flute, and spriggin hair for our violin - so much so that we could never nominate enough bards to use them, even if we wanted to...

You mean they kept that crappy part from Clan Lord? It's dumb to have it that way.
