Going over some notes for some further research and am seeking some opinions and insight in regard to the nature of golems/elementals.

One can certainly view Greymyr as sentient beings. Then you have "golems" that the Brions seemingly brought about, the mud, the fire and the water. (the ethereal golems are a puzzler) Akin to the greymyr, and while appear to be "programmed" to be hostile to beings not of their ilk, seem less than sentient.

Tree giants... A much greater mystery. I might put them in a similar classification with the Greymyr.

My focus is more towards the Greymyr and the Tree Giants. However I am curious at to what others have gathered concerning the nature of the "true elementals", as they seem to be lumped together in the compiled bestiaries.

The tree giants are very much alive.

A man once said something relevent about the soul.

"Does a dog have a soul? How about [a] cockroach""

It depends on what you define as having a soul.

Do you mean a substantial living energy that can be measured and often rises in the forms of ghosts or faithless?

Do you mean the collective thoughts of an individual who'se nature affects the way they play music or draw, or what they write?

Do you mean the life-force energy found within the individual that is sometimes consumed by certain kinds of undine or abyssal creatures?

Do golems have a soul?

Ask one or observe their behavior.

Perhapse you will find out. Maybe hammers have souls. Certainly certain machines have been said to have souls.

Ask a man who calls his broken down windmill a bitch every time it breaks and he'll say it has the soul of a banshee or worse.

The soul, in my opinion, is one of those things you cannot measure.

Who you are and who I am also changes over time.

Do golems have souls?

Go ask one.

One would assume that a golem is as likely to have a soul as is, say, a Fen.
