Puddleby Lore - Refresher Course

by Diotima » Thu Nov 10, 2011 6:23 am

It has come to my attention that many of the new exiles have very little idea of where they are and how "we" got here on Puddleby. I had a Sirrush approach me completely confused as to why Tsrrin was occurring and who the Sentinel even was. The Sentinel... Mobius. How can they not know of such things? It confounds my imagination to the point of ... of ... I am at a lose for words, I guess. :D

Where do we begin?

I foresee a joint mystic-university project in the works.

Perhaps we need to have a common place to communicate? Hey, how about here?!!

First thing's first.
The History of Shan Deral - http://www.clanlord.com/history/
Emperor Mobius - Puddleopedia - Emperor Mobius

It occurs to me that we also need to bring the history of our new found friends into the loop. This is a massive project to go on top of my other massive projects, so if anyone would like to help me, us and them. Feel free to jump right in and start spinning threads, tying knots and weaving carpets.

Perhaps a WoD type hunting group to help them cover some area's, that people have convinced them are worthless. The poor Sirrush didn't even know how to get to the Meadow, what Orga Camp is, or how far east Camp Dread really is...

I look forward to speaking with a few of you about this venture.

Sincerely,

Ma'Ta Diotima of Puddleby

Puddleby Lore - Refresher Course

(Keemhan recently came to town and told the story of Tsrrin.)

Keemhan says, "Well, you must all know what story it's time for now..."
Lerris asks, "has it changed at all?"
Keemhan asks, "Now, why would a fine story go changing?"
DeathLord asks, "Bawkmas?"
Keemhan exclaims, "Eh heh he, not quite yet!"
Lerris says, "to stay interesting? ;)"
Keemhan says, "But stories are what they are, you can't go changing history just to keep it interesting."
Lerris exclaims, "sure you can!"
Keemhan says, "Bah, maybe you can, but not a reputable storyteller like ol' Keemhan."
Lerris asks, "maybe you could add a bit more violence?"
(Keemhan cackles.)
Keemhan says, "More violence... all right..."
(Lerris nods)
(Keemhan clears his throat.)

(Look below to read Keemhan's story.)

Keemhan says, "Once upon a time..."
Keemhan ponders, "Dang guild rules, I get so sick of that line..."
Keemhan says, "Anyway, once upon a time, there was a young female of the People named Tsrrin."
Keemhan says, "Not T'srrin, or T'serrin, or Tes'rrin, but Tsrrin."
(Keemhan glares around.)
Keemhan says, "Tsrrin lived in a small village in the foothills of the northwest mountains during the time of the Darshak War."
Keemhan asks, "You've all heard of the Darshak War, I hope?"
Keemhan exclaims, "Plenty of violence in that!"
SnowLion says, "Nuh uh"
Keemhan asks, "You haven't? Didn't your parents teach you anything?"
Ayella asks, "Could you tell it?"
Keemhan says, "The Darshak attacked, Emperor Mobius drove them back...Stop me when this starts to sound familiar..."
Keemhan exclaims, "Long, long ago. It's the war that brought Mobius to the throne, for Gaia's sake!"
Keemhan says, "Hmph."
Keemhan ponders, "Sad state of education in the lands these days."
Keemhan says, "Now let me get on with the story. I know you've heard it before, but you asked for it, so listen."
Keemhan ponders, "Mighty thirsty work, storytelling. Sure is a shame beer's so expensive these days."
Keemhan says, "Well. Tsrrin's life wasn't easy, but it wasn't too hard either."
Ebonheart hands you a lager.
Keemhan says, "Oh, thank you, sonny."
Keemhan asks, "Now, where was I?"
Keemhan says, "Oh, yes."
Keemhan says, "Tsrrin worked in her family's garden, and sang, and danced."
Keemhan says, "Sometimes she traveled to the neighboring village to visit her cousins."
Keemhan says, "You see those three planets up there."
(Keemhan points to the sky with his staff.)
Keemhan says, "Well, everybody knows that when they're lined up in a row - like they almost are now - strange things can happen."
Keemhan says, "It's been that way for as long as anybody can remember. We know it, Tsrrin knew it... and the Darshak knew it too."
Keemhan says, "Why do funny things happen, you ask? Don't ask me, I'm just a storyteller."
Keemhan says, "When those three planets line up, strange things can happen."
Keemhan says, "This time I've been talking about, Tsrrin's time, what happened right around then was a Darshak raid."
Keemhan exclaims, "With violence and bloodshed galore!"
SnowLion says, "Yay"
(Lerris nods)
Keemhan says, "All right, maybe that's not so strange during a war. But it was a terrible tragedy."
Keemhan says, "Tsrrin came home from a visit to her cousins' village to find her home burned, the garden trampled."
Keemhan exclaims, "The violent, bloody darshak raid had destroyed her village!"
Keemhan says, "Her friends and family had vanished, every one, carried off by the Darshaks for some unspeakable purpose."
Keemhan says, "Tsrrin may have been young, but she was brave and resourceful."
Keemhan says, "She followed after the Darshaks, tracking them through the hills, until she found their camp..."
Keemhan says, "...shrouded in darkness and smoke and a feeling of evil you could almost smell."
(Keemhan sniffs the air and looks thoughtful.)
Keemhan says, "Off to one side, packed into a wooden pen, huddled her entire village, overcome with exhaustion and fear."
Keemhan exclaims, "And violence and bloodshed!"
Kalian exclaims, "yay!"
(Lerris claps)
(Anfyr grins.)
SnowLion says, "hehe"
Keemhan says, "Guarding the pen were a handful of thugs and a crowd of hooded corpses, ..."
Keemhan says, "and in the center of the camp stood half a dozen priests, chanting something over a blood-red flame."
Keemhan says, "Tsrrin knew she had to free her family, and quickly."
Keemhan says, "With scraps of cloth, mud and leaves, she disguised herself as a hooded corpse,..."
Keemhan says, "and lurched into the camp under cover of darkness and fog."
Keemhan says, "Carefully she wandered nearer to the captives' pen."
Keemhan exclaims, "You'd be careful too, alone in a camp full of Darshaks. She was brave, but she wasn't an idiot!"
(Keemhan cackles gleefully.)
Keemhan says, "Ah, but she was lucky, that she was."
Keemhan says, "She managed to attract her brother's attention, then get close enough to stumble against the latch on the gate."
Keemhan says, "Out swarmed a crowd of villagers, taking the thugs and corpses by surprise."
Keemhan exclaims, "Violently, and with lots of bloodshed!"
(Lerris grins)
Keemhan ponders, "Eh heh heh."
Keemhan says, "The heroine Tsrrin stripped off her disguise and joined her family,..."
Keemhan says, "running from the camp before the priests knew what had happened."
Keemhan says, "And so, every couple of years, when the planets line up like they are now, we celebrate the Feast of Tsrrin."
Keemhan says, "We put on disguises like she did, dodge the sinister carved Darshak and rescue candy."

Bones says, "Keemhan you tell the same story every year."
Lerris says, "whoo! violence and candy! :)"
Keemhan says, "Not every year, but whenever those planets line up."
Ebonheart asks, "So when do we get to rescue the candy and what not?"
Keemhan asks, "What do you expect me to do, change history?"
Prince Valiant says, "a good story, old man."
Bones says, "how about spicing it up a bit. maybe some fishing"
Raven asks, "Or fish candy?"
Keemhan says, "This year we had extra violence, for that young sylvan over there."
(Keemhan points to Lerris.)

Keemhan says, "Hm. Looks to me like the planets are still a bit apart."
Keemhan says, "I'd guess about another month before they're aligned."

I've been racking my brain trying to remember its name...

Puddleby Lore - Refresher Course

by Diotima » Fri Nov 25, 2011 1:59 pm

Puddleby at one time had a Catapault for the town's defences! This plan was of course taken as an act of war by the Orga who promptly invaded and stole the technology. We have recovered some knowledge of the technology. Here is a nice article by Azriel, at a tumultuous time in Puddleby's history.

Among the objects which have been stolen from Puddleby, by the Orga, is the altar in Town Center. If you notice the cracks in it, they are a result of being smashed by the Orga and fused back together by one of the Master Healers.

Bartok is one of Puddleby's Arch-Enemies and there is a great deal of lore surrounding this Orga in particular.

Puddleby Lore - Refresher Course

by Diotima » Tue Nov 29, 2011 2:29 pm

Now that I have thought about it for a few days, Purgatory and that Altar are seemingly a focal point of much lore and chaos. Thus, now it has come to my attention that the peoples of South Puddleby Island have suffered similar torment at the hands of the Orga in having their altar scattered across the southern mountains. Our invasion of the Lok'Grotons and subsequent conquest by the forces of Mobius have certainly caused the Orga to attack the newcomers to Puddleby. I gather that the Orga see our ability, to traverse Purgatory, as one of the reasons they can not be rid of the invaders to their isles.

Exiles in the past have survived, thanks to the never ending support of the Healer's guild. However, there was a time before healers in Puddleby's early history. A time when the Altar in Puddleby was the only source of health and salvation from the endless hordes of wildlife. The establishment of access to the Astral Realms were in an age before my time, but it seems that while seperate, the astral plane, purgatory and the abyssal realms are closely tied. These states of being are ostensibly connected to the source of power that the Darshak Theocracy endlessly seeks. From my research as best I can tell, the planes are closely related to the spirit and being. Earth, Air, Fire, and Water when tied to this fifth element "spirit" is seemingly the source of life in the Terrestrial Planes. Many powerful magi such as Qual, Zonk, Mirna, The Sons of 'Brion, and The Darshak Theocracy; all have shown talents expressed by the subtle Planes of Existence. Harnessing the magic of the microcosm in a quest to gain control over the higher realms.

There was a great threat to Purgatory when Tenebrion and his kin were nearly finished with their research. The unheeded warnings by Tenebrion, to the early explorers of the Etheric Planes, may have been a main reason causing a rift between the Etheric and Astral Planes. The mass departing of exiles from the Ethereal Plane to Purgatory, began to tear a hole from the Plane of Light to the Plane of Emotion. This caused the Terrestrial realms to begin to diminish and were vanishing into the realm of light. Ethereal Riptures began to form all over this realm and many exiles gave their lives to restore the Planes of the Earth back into order. This is the origin of the Kyuems which have been placed all over the Lok'grotons and are now semi-permanent gateways to the higher states of being.

If you notice or feel colors in purgatory these are the guardians of the light, follow them and they shall lead you home.

The muse has gone.

Somebody should do a write up on the Orb wars that caused the ripture. Those were crazy times when many exiles showed their true colors. Those that renounced the orbs and tried to stop them and those that continued to use them for their own gain at the risk of everyone else. It was a very trying time for Puddleby, one that probably shouldn't be forgotten.

I almost got into Adytum and Perdition but that's a whole other story. :D Here we go:

The Ripture war, possibly one of the most definitive events in the history of the world as we know it.

In brief, the Ripture war was the name exiles gave to a conflict that raged through the lands between the spring and summer of the year 533. During this conflict, exiles struggled against forces beyond their comprehension in a desperate attempt to save the world as they knew it. Due to the influence of malign artifacts called Soulglasses, Tears formed in the fabric of reality. The exiles of Puddleby battled countless Undine, and the Tears themselves, ultimately carrying the battle to the Land of Shadow before finally achieving victory.

I'd like to clarify this matter, if I can.

It's important that we distinguish between two different phases in Puddleby's history concerning the planes. In the 540s, the major concern was a growing rift between the Ethereal Plane and Purgatory, ostensibly caused by exiles departing from the EP. Tenebrion's experiments with Purgatory Pendants were also blamed for this, although he vehemently denied any responsibility. As far as I can tell, exiles and 'brions alike stopped worrying about this after Tenebrion had an accident and lost his memory,

The 560s were the time of the Ether Wars. The main concern at this time was the overuse of ethereal portal stones by exiles to open portals between our plane and the ethereal plane, mainly for quick transport. The outcome was that the two planes began to collide, which exiles managed to prevent by installing kyuems to regulate the ether at places like South Forest and Camp Dred.

In my research, I have not been able to discover any significant connection between these two problems with the planes.

Thank you for the clarification, Feodoric! I was gone for most of the 550's-560's and much of Ethereal plane was still undiscovered at that time.

Another huge saga that has lead to major implications for Puddleby was Captain Scabfoot. It seems subtle, but this story somehow leads up to Venable's take-over of Tenebrion's Island. Again, this occurred at at time I was heavily teaching at the Temple of the Sun in Peaceton. I would love to hear more lore about this due to my ignorance of the matter. Somehow, the appearance of the darkstone shards, Tenebrion's demise, and the rise of the Thaumaturge was all occurring upon my return. I might leave these pages open to the Pirate Clans of the Lok'Groton Isles. It seems that while I was gone, the Puddleby Navy was disbanded and I returned to a Puddleby full of Pirates who now controlled the waters around Puddleby. Needless to say I was quite taken back and suspicious about the new order. However, over time, I have come to greatly respect the Pirate Clans for their mettle in defeating the Darshak threats to Puddleby.

Timeline <some foggy haze that is best left for others to determine when the eff it was be>:
Pirate King's Log: Scabfoot Edition, Entry 1
Arrrs we founds like this Captain of tha Darshak Cult sillies runnin scared outa his wits sayin that Necro or necros or some dudes in dark robes were after him.
We assured him that if he swore loyalty to me that he would kept safe. We hid tha guy around town and defended him from some shak goons. Mista Clyde has been put in charge of security and has stashed Scabby by some lake and some hippies with some booze.

Pirate King's Log: Scabfoot Edition, Entry 2
Some ruffians apparently kidnapped Scabby when Mista Cylde was nappin. After a long battle or maybe it was durin, that good chum of mine Necro, who I totally slew all of his apprentices and goons fightin Rotbeard, sunstoned me outa tha blue askin ME ta find some shard for some dark thing. I heard tell of these shards before. Some peoples sayin they be evil, but evil don't effects me, I'm high, so I wentsa lookin around devil's island for this washed up chest with a shard in it.
So after much much, I'd say too much runnin and skirmishin tha shak, Scabby shows up and we start lookin for tha chest together. He had some sorta crazy blank look in his eyes. We spied tha chest and raced to it, my best pirates keepin tha damn shak and undead off us, and narrowly by at least fifty paces, snatched tha chest away from Scabby and ran off.
Necro said he'd be in touch. What a wacky guy, can't kill me so he wants me to work for him? Haha hrmmm... what if I kill that guy?

Pirate King's Log: Scabfoot Edition, Entry 3
Necro has sent me tha message. He wants to meet. Gonna prolly maybe try and kill him. Gathering the crew. Soon.

Pirate King's Log: Scabfoot Edition, Entry 4 & 5 jumbled and mixed together cuz oops foggy brain when writing. oops. pirates don't need "records" anyways.
Had a crack team of pirate badasses ready to ambush Necro in that burnt out old village thar where that one guy made that one bomb that blew up that one Noxy place in Puddleby, ahh good times. He agreed ta meet me good chum and most trusted Mystic advisor the one, the only, the "evil" Wangah Rah, and me First Mate Kalian.

Necro met us inside his secret hut. Whilst we entered tha hut, tha ambush squad assembled outside and waited for orders. Now for some reason, Necro acted honorably and asked us to retrieve four unique darkstone shards and he would reforge the darkstone for us.

We looked at him, look at his pet liche, looked back at him, and went "lolz you think we are stupid don't you? try again" At this point, Necro looked kind of befuddled. Then, he leveled with us. The Darshak Priesthood had been "dabbling" in very dangerous, "suicidally" dangerous ethereal research. Like merging two planes of reality dangerous and bad for all people who like this thing called being alive in any capacity or form. Our job was simple, forge a stone, get access to tha thaumaturge, whatever that is, and kill "all the priesthood".. which is going to have the added side effect of havin our new "friend" Necro move up a few ranks in that silly cult. Haven't they heard of just bribing the head of the cult for a better rank and status? simpletons.

So after much contract negotiation ensuring that neither I, nor my pirate cohorts would become unwilling slaves to Necro or other "dark and evil influences", we decided NOT to kill Necro, and forge his GD darkstone.

Pirate King's Log: Scabfoot Edition, Entry 6
We forged the darkstone, See Pirate Kings Log: The Quest to get the Shards from EVERYONE volumes 1-9 for details.

Pirate King's Log: Scabfoot Edition, Entry 7
We spelunked into tha Thaumaturge's Lair and got it mapped out. Killed a ton of dudes but no signs of this "thaumaturge". There are these big doors, but there are kinda locked. Meh, I vote we say we win.

Pirate King's Log: Scabfoot Edition, Entry 8
Scabby popped up at some point again. This time as a flippin Liche. When in Liche form he is NOT friendly. Note to self: Order Pirates to kill that guy if his soul can't be unpurged of taint... hehe taint.

Pirate King's Log: Scabfoot Edition, Entry 9
There seem to be some "darshak rebels" toolin around. Tryin ta get Scabby in with them, but they say he is a spy and not to be trusted. Duh, he turns into a liche, why do they think we wanna pawn him off on someone else? He is increasingly less himself. Necro told me he was his "plaything" and "puppet" now. Good thing I hammed shit out with that dude durin tha ever important contract negotiation phase. Poor poor Scabby.

In other news that Fen President Largo becomes tha first Fen President to DO something. Ruining a good run from Relkin of doing nothing, and his predecessor Odes too. Why's he gotta ruin that awesome streak of unfetter fans and money and give up tha good life and DO something? Kids these days...
Anyways he is some sorta rebel sympathizer. Meh, I'll sympathize when they pay or bow to me and me crews. Both would be pretty sweet.

Pirate King's Log: Scabfoot Edition, Entry 10
Awww HELLZ no! The Rebels won't bow OR pay and Scabby is missing. Arr it be sooo on. So totally on.
Personal note: stock up on zu before the war.

Pirate King's Log: Scabfoot Edition, Entry 11
Arrrr! It was a uber long and bloody battle, but it be done. Tha prison time, the fines, it was all worth it, cuz we wons... Arrr.

It all started when Fen President Largo and his Largocracy Forces brokered a deal on behalf of Puddleby for tha rebels to "help" our town fight off an impending invasion from not only the Ash island elite forces and general scumbaggery darshak fleet, but also two whole fleets from Ganther had been dispatched and on their way to help in tha assualt.

Now this had worried me as I had written in Pirate King's Log: Darshak Rebels, Can I kill them all yet? , Volume 1. The 'shaks, in any form, are not to be trusted with out some sort of binding agreement of feality, which they never swore, nor did they pay us for protection, only taking and never giving, like the worst kind of zu mooch. The WORST kind. So yarr, they be on my shit list. So I executed one of their agents who admitted to slave trading for the rebels with tha help of Mr.Kalian and his ethereal portal stone collection. So good.

So the battle came, Puddleby's finest had joined with the rebels who had set up camp in the far northern beaches of Puddleby Island. I may have "accidentally" stabbed one upon "greeting" them before the battle, but had smoothed things over nicely. The battle began. Puddleby and the Pirates of Lok'Groton easily defeated tha first wave. Then tha fools from Ganther arrived. Around then seemed like a good time to start killing rebels, so in the chaos of battle, the Pirates of Lok'Groton broke off, and started guttin rebels like it was going out of style. Then some Largocrat sued me, a few times, finally I went to jail, but then I busted outa that shit and charged off into battle once again with me Pirate comrades.

Around then, as the last of the Ganther forces were unloading, not so cocky as when they first landed and boasting how easily they'd conquer our tiny island paradise of immortality and immorality and how badly this outpost's forces sucked, Necro sent a rather LARGE force of liches, lead by my dear sweet old friend, Scabby. This too, seemed like a totally good time to start killing rebels again.

After much rebel killing by all, and much more butchery and arguing by everyone, Scabby was cornered and slain. Some guy who was probably Wangah did some ritual with the darkstone to dissipate his soul or something so Necro could no longer control it and he could rest in peace or something kinda sorta happyish like that. I means, Scabby was cool, and is totally dead now, and was a tool for evil and destruction and spying towards the end of his life, but arr likes, he be at peace now and uhhh free. yeah dude shoulda totally touched our alter. sucks to be him nerd.

Oh ya, side note: we managed to kill every last darshak, liche, various undead, sucker from Ganther, AND rebel, except for one which Skirwain and Althea convinced me to keep alive out of benevolence. Ya know, spread the story of terror to everyone. Do not fuck with the Pirates of Lok'Groton, or Puddleby.
Cuz we did all that, during multiple court cases and mistrials. Bring it on you silly cult! you can't kill the immortal exiles! LEARN ALREADY WE ARE YOUR MASTERS, FOOLS! Smokey time. Good night dear diary.

Pirates totally rule!
End the Saga of Captain Scabfoot, Friend of the Pirates of Lok'Groton, Puppet of Necro, Kind of Sad Dude who died a wacky Liche of Doom and Power.
