I want this thread to gather info on the various benefits given by ranks of Mentus which are not specific to Mystics.

1. Portal damage mitigation. With 0 ranks Mentus an exile's health is taken down to where they are "red", with 20 ranks of Mentus, an exile is undamaged. Seems to be linear between, such that 10 ranks gives half the protection of 20 ranks.

2. Deadly poppies have no effect if you have at least 20 ranks of Mentus.

3. Shieldstone breakage is less frequent with Mentus training. With 0 ranks of Mentus, a shieldstone breaks about once every 50 times it is used. With 1500 Mentus, a shieldstone breaks about once every 500 times it is used. The amount of reduction with more modest ranks of Mentus is unknown, but it is probably an exponential (not linear) relationship, where the first ranks of Mentus give more benefit than the later ones.

4. EP Stone breakage is less frequent -- anybody ever verified this?

5. Illusion breaking... what is the range of Mentus values which are useful for this?

6. Cloud driving... can this be done by a non-mystic with sufficient Mentus ranks?

7. Reduction in amount of experience needed to gain a new rank -- anybody ever verified this?

8. Helps with PF path learning and remembering -- anybody ever verified this?

I seem to recall both of these being explicitly denied, though I can't remember where/when.

A non mystic with sufficient ranks can open the paths in the castle on DI past the tinderbox. I think some paths are harder than others. I don't think mentus is connected at all with pathfinding, but it's possible the paths in that castle led people to think that. (There is no pathfinding involved in there, as far as I know.)

The crazy nutty /thinkgroup trainer works in tandem with Mentus, I believe.

I'd guess mentus has nothing to do with pathfinding, as Org was one who was constantly losing paths. I'd guess he has a bit of mentus.

Another thing Mentus does is prevent Spriggins from stealing your coins.

Mentus is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not use Mentus.

Nah.

It does however help you to recognize the camouflaged tower where you can see a partially-constructed teleport booster that may eventually provide a safe route back to Puddleby.

Some others mentioned it but I thought I should explicitly state that enough Mentus will allow any class to enter and see through the illusions in Colmert's Castle. Minimum mentus needed to open all the illusions there is unknown as far as I know. But I do know different illusions require different amounts I've been told the easier ones can be opened at 20 and the hardest ones are 50-80 or something.

However Mentus will not help you open any other illusion (Noth, Inner DI, OC2, etc). These require a FM only trainer.
