NekoTester 1.0a1 Released!

by Tigger » Tue Jul 13, 2004 5:16 am

Hi there! I'm announcing the availability of NekoTester version 1.0a1. NekoTester is a utility application for testing new icon sets for use with Clan Lord. You can see your icons run and jump and frolic much like you would when using Clan Lord, see how they look on various backgrounds, and quickly reload changes you make in your paint program. It can also be used to let people try out your icon sets to see how they like them without having them installed in the Clan Lord Graphics file and put up in the Fairgrounds first.

This is an alpha release, so you should expect to find some problems (see the section on bug reporting below). If you aren't comfortable using prerelease software or are afraid of horrendous, fatal crashes, don't use it! Seriously. Although NekoTester is becoming fairly stable, and it should not harm any existing files you have, there are no guarantees. This version will not automatically expire, but check back frequently for updates. NekoTester is a native OS X application and it will not work with OS 9.

This version includes a preview icon set of Marfisa's purrific new male Fen'Neko icons. Drag the image onto NekoTester and select one of the Marfisa presets to try them out.

Download it now from Versiontracker!

Heh. You wouldn't like it. The monsters would kill you too easily, and you'd have less time to react.

Well, at least, that's my opinion. Although, I have to say, I do like 5fps. :)

Only because the game was designed to have a "frame" base rather than a "time" base.

It's correctable, by rewriting much of the game's infrastructure, which will happen about the time the GM's give Prue an army of flying wendeka to do her bidding.

Probably better to add it to the feature list of CLv2.

Just wanted to say if any icon designers want to use NekoTester and you use your own layout format for the graphics files, give me all the details and I'll be happy to add a preset for you. A future version will allow you to store your own custom presets but it doesn't work yet. Also would like to know of any other standard Delta Tao formats. So far I just have 28x28, 32x32, and 34x34 for them.

Although a player's "bump diameter" is always 32 pixels, the image can in principle be any size. Of course things will feel funny if the graphics are too far off the bump diameter (for example, the rat or fire drake costumes during the Feast of Tsrrin). In the standard layout, divide the width by 16 to get the size of each pose's pane.

Monsters can have any bump diameter, although there are limits imposed by practicality and playability.

Hmm ok, interesting info, but so far I'm not implementing "bumping". I'm more interested in the physical layout of the image files (and what other common sprite sizes are used). Bumping will be implemented in my next product, Clone Lord. :P

Sorry, I see I digressed.

My point was that icon layouts can be any size, but the width of the image is always exactly 16 times the pose size. Even player icons can in principle be any size, although they're likely to hover around 32 pixels.

No, no, that's the new icon.

After the tragic release of 2.4 million Brions of Ethereal radiation, all Fen'nekos mutated...

it used to be their tops were made out of rubber and their bottoms made out of springs...but now it's the other way around.

(a Brion is a measure of Ethereal energy or a measure of arrogant hubris)

You're using the wrong preset for the image type. First of all, make sure you download the latest version (1.0a3 as of this post). Then, you must choose a preset that matches the image format from the Image & Pose Mapping panel. Most will be one of the "Delta Tao" presets, with "Delta Tao 32x32" being the most common. If it's one of the included new Marfisa Fen files marked "Leonine", you select either "Marfisa Armed" or "Marfisa Unarmed" (her files contain both sets in one file, Delta Tao formats contain only one icon set per file).

Tell me the exact name of the icon image file you're trying to get to work and I'll tell you which preset to use.
