One of the things that's always impressed me about the CL community is the creativity that's been expressed through websites. I can think of few communities of our size that have produced as many fan sites as the Clan Lord community has. Unfortunately, many of the early CL sites are no longer available, and a lot of early CL history and culture is slowly being lost.

Fortunately, a large number of lost CL sites can be accessed through Archive.org, and I've saved my own personal copies of websites over the years as well. Using these archived sites, I've created a new site that hosts old Clan Lord sites. The site can be found at:

http://puddleby.com/scroll-restoration/

So far, I've restored about a dozen CL sites, including sites by early clanners such as Sassy, Lilit, and Speedier, as well as other fan sites, such as Grumpy Old Clanners and the Story of Falinea. I'm currently working on restoring many more sites, including any site that's hosted on Geocities, which will no longer be available at the end of the month.

This is still a work in progress, so let me know if you have any feedback or if you're the creator of a site, and have any requests. Also, if you happen to have any copies of old websites lying around, please send them to me, and I will be happy to host them on Puddleby.com.

Thanks Lundar. Was browsing Ton's site just yesterday, and noticed a couple sites (like Thuja's) that are linked from there are no longer available.

Ton's I hope never goes away. :(

If you have a link to Aki/Iho's "Puddlemap!" and the "Known World" maps, those would be priceless.

Yes, I noticed that a number of sites on puddleby.info are down. Not sure what's going on with that. Red-quill.org also seems to be unavailable. Anyone know what's going on with that?

On a related note, I was thinking of offering site hosting on Puddleby.com, if people are interested.

I do happen to have a copy of Parintachin's atlas! You can find it here:

The world has changed quite a bit since that map was created though ;)

I don't know. I noticed the UoP site was down some time ago and tried to find a working contact link on a few of the puddleby.info sites, but nothing worked.

I also tried the email information in the domain record and that didn't work either.

Anyone have a working email?

Sweet!

I have an old and well-worn printout of it. It's great for nostalgia!

I'll PM you the e-mail I have on file. Let me know if you want me to host the site on Puddleby.com.

Clan Bored was one of my favorite sites when it was up. It has a number of captures (or whatever theyre called) on archive.org as well.

For those of you who didn't have the distinct pleasure of experiencing what is Outcast, I suggest reading his rants. Courtesy of Clan Bored via archive.org:

This is pretty good I thought:
If these are true (Which in itself is dubious) then Chum is making Clan Lord languish merely because he has some sadistic urge to force the CL players work through some meaningless crap to get to anything worthwhile, which he'll no doubt severely cripple. Chum is holding back Clan Lord. And where the hell is Joe? God only knows. He's probably off sitting in his Yurt wearing a grass skirt farming beets. Also, it seems clear that he's cut off his testicles to make himself a quiet wimpy impotent ruler of Clan Lord, who sits by while Chum runs rampant.
Some things don't change.

I thought that was good, then I read this:
You have to think about DT's stance on game balance. This is their opinion: "It's jim dandy; the game is balanced; communism is built, now STFU and stop complaining."

With this is mind, how is it possible to think that DT would ever reward the players for completing a major quest by giving them something that would constistantly and significantly help them? It's inconceivable, we're never going to get any cool new items or trainers from these quests, becuase DT thinks doing so will unbalance the game. Any 'major' 'rewards' have to be innefective like the Strange Orga Stone, useless frippery like the Soul Sword, or at best incredibly rare and thus uninfluential.

In short, quality of life progress for the exiles is doomed becuase DT is dead set against it, convinced that it will make the game too easy if we get USEFUL items and trainers etc.

Instead, we can expect to see things, at best, like a teeth trainer: Something they took away from us a while ago and are now making us buy back at a ridiculous price.

So the only possible use for these plotlines is roleplaying fun or some kind of hooey like that. Sure it's fun, but why would my character be motivated to complete a boring repetative action (like OC raids or tree humping) when no such exploits in the past have ever born truly useful fruit? And honestly screw roleplaying in this case, why should I waste time for hours humping a tree when I know I'll get nothing except a crippled item from it in the best case scenario, it just doesn't make the stupid game very much fun.
Sorry for the spam but thanks for the links meph.

Thanks for hijacking my thread :p

I have to agree with Outcast on this one, though. I've always thought that DT is way too conservative when it comes to balancing the game, especially one of this size. If you were managing something the size of WoW, yeah, I could see being careful about introducing new features, but a small game like CL provides more opportunity to be bold, and experiment.

Bows and arrows are a case in point. It's ridiculous to me how useless these things are. Sure, there are balance issues, but there are plenty of ways to have useful projectiles without completely unbalancing the game. If nothing else, just raise the cost of the arrows, and people won't overuse them. Making an item useless, and then calling it "balanced" kind of defeats the point.

Anyway, back on topic... if anyone has any old websites lying around on their hard drives, I would be happy to host them on Puddleby.com. Just shoot me a PM.

At least we can agree that HGM is counterproductive to the survival and success of the game.
