Finally is all i can say  well done SDC for being first to discover the trick to this. It made a lovely day out for me looking round this new part of our lands. No pubs there though, dammit Eldon

maybe you didn't look well enough Fundin÷

As a kind of follow-up to TMN's comments :

I'm still baffled that we *officially* were the first group to enter the northeast part of the island. I DO believe that it was entered before us, but whoever did and want to claim it now is welcome to provide evidence. Frankly, I don't really care, because what is important (for us) is that we did it as a group, and that we enjoyed a feeling of true discovery. So if whoever-entered-first kept it secret with a sincere intent of preserving other explorers' fun, may they be thanked. If it was just to reap the benefit of the place alone÷ it's only deserved, but at least assume it.

We did boast about it because we're not the ones who usually discover new lands, and also because we believe in sharing enjoyment with the community. However, I like to think that we did it in a motivating way, by revealing just enough for people to realize it was possible, and then investigate and explore by themselves.

Mentioning feather and tinderbox so blatantly was a very lame smartass reaction IMO, and deprived everybody else from having a chance at finding out by themselves. It's such a cheap shot that I can't believe Klur to be the real author. But PM is so good at maintaining confusion that we will probably never know÷ well, so be it :/

More OOC : As for the riddles so far, I must say that it's nice to see NPC pseudo-nonsensical talk having some actual meaning. It took so long to solve them because we're facing game mechanics that we had not seen before, so people probably just discarded doing certain things just because they have no actual effect so far. Once a new behavior is discovered, we adapt and progress much faster :)

Let's have more loose ends plugged please!

3 cheers for my old clan.

I always root (at least ooc) for the ol' SDC. Good for you, gang!

Amen to plugging loose ends...if you can't do it the way the original designer intended, rewrite the script and make their nonsensical words fit a new plot.

Congratulations on being the first Sor. You spent the time working on the puzzle, so you deserved to make the discovery. As Klur said, don't believe anything you see, and half of what you hear...or maybe it was the other way around ;) You know, I could comment on Thoomcare about how great PM is and sign Nightbird's name. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Congrats SDC and everyone else who worked hard on the puzzle!

As for the hints on Thoomcare, that's pretty much neither Klur's style nor PM's style... I'd hope people would have picked up on that.

Ok, then did Klur write the following on the same thread?

Ok, do I win now?

If he did, then what was the purpose? If he didn't, then someone posted using his name and that just isn't right.

That was the point of Althea's and my posts Jeanne. Anyone can write anything with anyone's name on it on Thoomcare. Para has said he has no way of checking, so those cannot be counted on since they aren't password checked. Just don't believe everything that is written there.

What Lorikeet is saying is correct.

The upcoming new version of Movable Type is supposed to allow comment verification. Unfortunately, the makers of MT have set off a firestorm by changing the terms of the license, and I'm waiting a bit for the dust to settle to decide whether I will use the new MT or consider switching to an entirely different content management system. Yes, this stinks. I have 2 years worth of entries to consider. I'd tackle the problem right now, but as I mentioned on TMN, my life OOC is a bit crazy right now and my hands are full. I will resolve the problem more often in the future by simply closing the comments function and referring to topics created here on the Sentinel.

Neige sent me an article on one user's opinion concerning the Movable Type topic. The author of this article opted to make the conversion from MT to WordPress.

I'm sure there are many open source blogging options out there (personally, I am partial to Scoop). I guess it comes down to finding something that you're comfortable with (and in ThoomCare's case, something that can easy convert over two year's worth of data).

Good luck!

Interestingly, I've been considering WordPress myself. Thanks for that link to one user's thoughts on the whole mess, Phineas.

I'll keep everyone informed. I wouldn't look for any changes right away, but in the upcoming months I expect there will be some sort of changes at TMN. I've been holding off on some major improvements while I was waiting for MT 3.0; the new licenses associated with 3.0 mean I have to seriously reconsider the way I operate the site in general, unfortunately. I feel sort of like I've been played for a sucker. I think a lot of others feel that way, and that's why so many MT users are unhappy right now.

I selected MT because at the time it was clearly the most powerful and just plain coolest option. The vision of the designers seemed to be one I found appealing. Over time, though, they let MT fall behind as they worked on their TypePad project. While I am troubled by the recent license changes, I'm more troubled by the thought of what restrictions they might impose in the future. It may be time to jump ship.

Sorry to get sidetracked with OOC talk in this IC forum. I just wanted people to know I'm aware of the problem, and I detest it. In the short run, I'll take steps to minimize it, until a better solution is implemented.

Oh yeah, Thoom.

I've never understood why people claim areas as 'theirs' and name it after themselves. (jannars grove for example, caught on) sure its commemorative and all that crap, but it leaves me wondering.. why? its all so capitalistic, competition, competition, competition...

I would say good work to whoever found it before 'SDC', but thats not what they would want, it appears.

How very modest of them.

Oh, please.

It's not capitalistic. And really, it's only mildly about competition. It's about the very human desire to say "wow, I (or we, in this case) did something cool and I'd like that to be remembered."

I love "Wisher's Gate", "Jannar's Grove", the named s'nells in Snaggy, etc, etc, because it helps me remember events and people. Keep naming stuff after yourselves folks and if it's cool enough to catch on, awesome.

It will always be "Devil's Island" for me.

I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other, but naming areas after oneself does smack of hubris and perhaps even lack of thought. That being said, I always wanted to discover an area 'cause I've got the greatest name ready to go. The Discotheque.

Imagine it. Hey baby, wanna go lay waste at The Discotheque? It's enough to bring Babajaga out of the lib and dance baby, dance those beasts.

Or how about Grandmother's House for a place in the vicinity of Noids? How do you get there? Come on, people, sing it!

Mostly I think exiles suck at naming places. We throw adjectives like "New" and "Old" around. Cardinal compass points pass as names far too often. And the aformentioned quest for immortality through naming rocks after oneself.

I'm not sure how we got to this topic, other than Meph's statement. Do my clanmates now get to chose a name for SunDragonia?

[ooc] If this topic goes any further, perhaps re-thread it?[/ooc]

They changed the name of Devil's Island to something else?

brain storm:

Istanbul was Constantinople

Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople

Been a long time gone, Constantinople

Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night

Every gal in Constantinople

Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople

So if you've a date in Constantinople

She'll be waiting in Istanbul

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam

Why they changed it I can't say

People just liked it better that way

So take me back to Constantinople

No, you can't go back to Constantinople

Been a long time gone, Constantinople

Why did Constantinople get the works

That's nobody's business but the Turks

Istanbul (Istanbul)

Istanbul (Istanbul)
