Not really on topic, but tangentially related:
Small Eukaryids are a particularly jarring exception. I wonder if it was done on purpose.Starsword wrote:Even things that don't have a black outline, most things usually have a dark color around their edge. This gives things focus, and makes everything sharp. It's also an integral part of CL's style.

It may have been, as it makes them damnably hard to notice as they drift around, especially among the ones drawn into the background!Feodoric Mermeios wrote:Not really on topic, but tangentially related:

This a quote taken out of context. Inanimate objects were the subject I believe (at least if my memory serves me well). Something moving already get some focus just because of moving. (and in some cases are mostly the only way of seeing them, look at the florese vermine in its usual habitat, just a few pixels are actually visible )Feodoric Mermeios wrote:Not really on topic, but tangentially related:

I think the points still stands though, they're not an exception. Manders, ethereal creatures, the little shrooms, and others don't have hard black outlines. there are a variety of drawing/art styles mashed together in CL.

Knowing when to break the rules, and which ones to bend as to yield a desired effect comes with experience.
