I fall in to that category that had no idea that you were physically challenged until you mentioned it somewhere..

Thanks for mentioning thoomcare.com, Yor! Great article.
My typical method for screenshots is to use Command-Shift-3 or Command-Shift-4. In the most recent versions of OS X, that produces a PNG on your desktop that you can then crop and convert as desired. (In some earlier versions of OS, this key command produced a TIFF or PDF, I think.)
The best way I have found to display CL screenshots on the Web is to use either GIF or PNG format. TIFFs tend to be large and some browsers won't display them. JPEGs use lossy compression and work better with photos than they do with the line-art type of images that make up CL screenshots. A long time ago, I used to use JPEGs sometimes on TMN because it helped to keep down bandwidth. Nowadays, that's not really much of an issue.

Great article Yor. I've always admired how you can achieve as much as you do in CL. You sure beat me and I have no excuse, and I don't even lead like you do! You make it all look easy.

Great article, Yor. I was always curious about what you used to clan. Now that you're mastering images and layout, you'll have to start posting to OWE News.
TIFF makes sense to me for screenshots because it gives the best quality. You can always convert to other formats for smaller files to put on the Web. However, if you start with a lower quality image, you can't really improve it. As far as keeping Web images a modest size, I am a fan of PNG — great compression and decent quality.

I read the article yesterday at work. Good form. Anyway, OnyX can change some of those options without resorting to the terminal. Though I like both options.Yor wrote:Thanks for the compliments all.
Fundin is giving me a lesson on image formats and scaling. Clan Lord screenshots simply don't scale well in any format it seems though.
Here's something weird I learned from Fundin. Apple's Grab saves in TIFF by default. If you want to change the default format you have to type a command in Terminal. Why doesn't Apple put a preference in Grab for file format? Why this terminal nonsense? That's kinda silly IMO.![]()

And if you are using command-shift-4 you can then hit the space bar and it will turn into a camera icon where you can grab the whole "window" that's in focus... useful for including toolbars and what-not without having to squint at the screen and try to drag the perfect box. Good article.

Another writer did the EVE online review.DeathLord wrote:Did you do the review on Eve Online as well Yor?
I thought EVE look pretty cool and I actually tried the 14 day free trial. But although the game seems to have a lot of potential I thought the interface was way too cluttered and the Mac version was pretty buggy. So I didn't stick with it beyond the 14 day free trial. I'm sure it'll keep getting better as time goes on and it looks like they're actually going to avatars so you can walk around space stations and such. That sounds really cool and when they do that I may give it another try.

Yeah, that's Michael Phillips. He's the other senior editor for the site. He's using SwitchXS with a single switch connected and basically kicking butt in Unreal Tournament with nothing but one finger. I don't know how he does it. He's awesome.Elindir' wrote:Wow, great article. I was interested by the website and surfed around a while. I found this video that I thought was simply incredible.
