Signs and Portents

A few days ago, I returned to town to find many rats attacking, which were surprisingly resilient and hard to kill. They were reinforced by apparent Valley rats, which slaughtered like ordinary rats but still hit very hard. Several fighters pursued the rats to western beaches, where they killed a certain one. This message was heard by those nearby, and all in the lands felt a wave of confusion.

•The First among the heralds sought
* An ear receptive to its word
* But would the witness give his ear
* to the confusion to be heard?

Later, chiggers were reported in north town and farms. These chiggers bit hard, just like the rats. They were reinforced by purple chiggers, and later huge purple chiggers. After pursuing them east into the eastern north farms, Creed was attacked by a yellow chigger. Killing it yielded this message:

• The Second of the heralds brought
* A portent filled with dire distress
* But would the witness shun advice
* And seek instead a nescient bliss?

All in the lands felt a wave of distress.

Today, we just finished repelling scavenger birds from the Junkyard. First they were small, then they were large, and then there was a red bird like a bloodhawk. Everyone in the lands felt a wave of pain, and the message everyone nearby heard this time was:

• The third of heralds raised its horn
* And blared its bodement pure and plain
* But could the witness understand
* If never comprehending pain?

Who knows what tomorrow will bring?
Tomorrow brought: (compiling all messages)

Starbucks (silver starbuck, University snell of east forest)
• With vile contempt and opened scorn
* The Fourth of heralds' threat was made
* But would the witness hearken or
* fear an omen thus conveyed?

Tors (ivory tor, Old Bear Caves by River Tunnel)
• The Fifth of heralds held its tongue
* Enduring torment of the sword
* But did the witness heed this deed
* Or had this presage been ignored?

Rockodiles (young andvari, Kitty Beach)
• And as the witness fell among
* The brethren of the herald Six
* Had some misgivings still remained
* For suffering thus one inflicts?

Slugs (pale pink slug, Lily Pond)
• And as the witness cried with grief
* The seventh herald's grin was grim
* For now the witness understood.
* The time was ripe. It could Begin.

Snakes (pink winged snake, Greymyr Valley)
• The Eighth of heralds hurled its spear
* With barbs malicious shredding skin
* The witness shrieked in agony.
* The time is now. Let it Begin.

Noids (small blue arachne, Spider Caverns/Baby Noids)
• \"The time is now! It has Begun!\"
* The herald Ninth addressed its horde
* The witness felt uncertainty
* For now the witness was ignored.

Panthers (black housecat, last snell of Valley before exit cave)
• A thunder bellowed from the Tenth
* Of heralds calling forth the storm
* Agape with bleak anxiety
* The witness watched the horror form.

Ferals (blue feral, ordinary size, Feral Den second cave)
• And as the legion congregated
* The eleventh herald called
* For throats that spewed hysteria
* To swallow sun and moon and all.

Wyrms (blue wyrm, from Rocky Cavern)
• The Twelfth of heralds was the last
* To leave and silence filled the air.
* The bridge was crossed and now alone
* The witness wept with great despair.

Drakes (black, in east field south)
• The fifteen thousand days conclude.
* With all the treasures that we brought
* You have accepted willingly.
* You have been paid. You have been bought.
* And now, you are our property.
* This final message we avow:
* You've had your fifteen thousand days.
* Your time has passed. Our time is now."

Whatever it is, it can't be good. Animals are more in tune to the environment than we are. They must be upset and exhibiting such strange bahaviour because they can sense something we can't.

You'd think they finally grok that there are a bunch of bipeds that repeatedly hunt them down.

When the woodland critters turn on each OTHER...then I will worry. Coming after us however, I am surprised it took them this long.

This just added:

Next one:

• The Fifth of heralds held its tongue
* Enduring torment of the sword
* But did the witness heed this deed
* Or had this presage been ignored?
* A wave of torment washes over you.

A horde of Tors with this.

You know, it might be completely unrelated. Yesterday I swear I "bumped past things" in the free library as I made my way thru. I couldn't see anything being there and when I retraced my steps they were gone. Add to that the attacks by invisible (and untouchable) Agratis in the temple...

spooky happenings

I've found 'obstacles' in the free lib before. Also, a bloodblader detected life in some of the floor tiles.

We are all constantly being observed by powerful beings with the ability to render themselves invisible and insubstantial... though at times they do the 'invisible' bit and clean forget the 'insubstantial'.

A wave of suffering, lots of uber-rockodiles of all sizes. Herald was an andvari.

This last message confuses me more than the wave sent out by the first herald.

The 'witness' described in the first five messages might refer to an exile or all exiles, as this last one says that the rockodiles (brethren of the sixth herald) killed the witness. The last line is getting me, it breaks down to [something] inflicted on someone due to suffering? The 'thus' indicates that the suffering is the reason for something being inflicted.
