Vagile is now running Vagile's (un)Official Personality NPC Contestâ„¢.

Rules:

Make an interactive NPC that is fun.

House it in one of the farm areas around town -- in a hut or outside in the farms. Publicize its location here in this thread.

The bot does not have to have a practical purpose (healing, mending, whatever) but bonus points are available if the bot performs an interesting purpose such as information for newbies or direction giving to various areas.

The bot may be occasionally inhabited by PWC but _must_ only be played in a manner consistent with its personality when it runs automonously.

Community feedback to be posted in this thread.

Vagile will go on a fund raising campaign to provide prizes. Stinkfist is authorised to collect coins and items for Vagile to this end.

Two questions:

Is Algy the judge of the winner?

Are the funds from the Algy reward fund being funneled here?

The winner will be determined by popular concensus with Vagile acting as arbitrator in case of dispute.

Algy's reward fund is a completely separate fund raising issue.

Are supposed to trust a pirate with our money! Will Vagile kick pirate butt if he pockets coins for himself?

I think anyone interested in entering could have a say in the deadline. They'll have a better idea of how long something like this might take than Vagile. A month or so maybe?

Vagile is shocked shocked to hear a whisper that an authorized community fund raiser might pocket coins for themselves. Vagile has had stern words to Stinky about the need to be seen as scrupulously honest when collecting coins for worthy community fund raising objectives such as this. Vagile trusts Stinky understands the situation perfectly well. Someone else can vounteer to collect as well.

Any suggestions for what to use for scripting on a PC?

Time frame would be highly dependent on how ambitious people want to be, Cap'n. I'd imagine an interesting macrobot could be put together in a week if someone wanted to devote the effort; something more Algernonesque would probably require writing real code, either by intercepting logs and AppleScripting CL or writing a custom client, and those are going to take a while.

Personally, I'd want to have some idea of the time frame before picking an approach, so it's sort of a Catch-22 situation... But if it's going to be a couple of months and the prize is at all tempting, I might have a few fun ideas...

I think Vagile was looking for bots that don't do anything but talk. Atleast thats what I got from it.

Stinky can be trusted with moneys involved in the contest. Stinky and Vagile go way way way back, if there is a single person Stinky wouldnt abuse the trust of, its Vagile, Vagile still scares the crap outa Stinky and he does whatever Vagile says (thanks for the Navy Vagile).

the coins collected already is about 400c

More coins and swanky things are needed.

A couple of months then. Shall we say June 30?

The bot can do anything so long as it is interactive and fun.

I'll donate an item as a prize. Either a unique trophy item of some nature or an Oakbasher or something like that. What would be preferred?

I'd prefer it not to be something as rare as an oak basher. I don't want to be *forced* to compete!

You mean forced to win.
