Discussion of the bestiary at http://bestiary.puddleby.net .

Feel free to discuss within this thread, or start a new one. Suggestions, additions, corrections, whatever, all welcome here.

Group them in the CL groupings. You know, the Ranger study families. Up to now we've only had our own taxonomy. With the advent of Ranger Studies we learn the true taxonomy.

Include Atkus & Detha minimums to hit and brick.

Atkus and Detha "soon."

The groupings are mainly in ranger study families, but my information is pretty incomplete. I don't even think a third of the world's 450 creatures are listed in the Ranger guide. The "family" subheading under each monster is intended to be the exact Ranger family.

Apparently the ethereal creatures are in their own family, which I learned recently, so I'll have to take care of that. Any ranger-y input is more than welcome, though.

I'm getting a weird image for the Blymoid Breaker, looks like the pixel dimensions of the picture got messed up.

Some stuff about ranger families: Lizards are in their own family apart from frogs or meshra (just tested this). I would guess frogs and meshra are in the same family but don't know this for sure. All the orcs, t'rools + other 'kins are in their own family. Guessing that dogs and bears are 2 separate families, expert on this would probably be Hoggle McBoggle with his dual feral/bear morphs. Oh, and the slug-wurm family is a different family than wyrms as far as I know. Arachne and arachnoid might be separate families also? (can anyone verify?)

Looks like awesome work so far, those old school icons like island locust or myrms take you back heh.

I have the bears/dogs, arachne/noid and the wurms/wyrms combined in the same categories, and then separated by hard returns (as well as different Family entries) inside the html page. This was done because a lot of pages (like Annelida -- the Tesla and Leech, or fire elementals) would be tiny compared to say, Orga (with something like 30 entries). This seems to be confused often enough to warrant me splitting every family into its own page, and not combine similar families.

Good to know about the lizards; I didn't have any info on that (was just my guesses).

[Edit: Whoa, you weren't kidding about the blymoid picture being messed up. Somebody entered an extra, uh, 2 digits in the height!]

The bestiary should be 100% up-to-date now. At the moment, there are no 'secret' creatures that I'm waiting for time to pass before I publish.

If I am missing any creature, beyond those that are seen only in invasions, it is an unintentional mistake.

(The Darshak section had not been updated before, and a few other creatures were missing, when I last published).

On the immediate list:
1. Better descriptions.
2. Creature strength spectrum (Fundin's suggestion in other post).
3. Error checking, since many entries have not been updated in many, many years.
4. Add more live sketches.

On the "soon" list:
1. Put all the data into a MySQL DBL.

On the "on the list" list:
1. Allow dynamically-generated pages, such as "sort by location" or "sort by coin-worth."

The "manutan" is really a "mantuan".

There was a "nakika" once, inhabiting Metz waters. It looked like an octopus. Kerrah has a trophy.

I was just updating the CLUMP Creatures Page and realized that I've made categories of creatures that could serve as a new field for the Bestiary: Movement Type. maybe adding in that field to your entries might be useful to people?

The http://bestiary.puddleby.net/news.html has been updated. Two of the new Ethereal creatures were added. The main change has been that the families creatures fall into are now more clearly defined. Hopefully it is obvious where one family begins and another ends.

I wanted to group similar families (e.g. Arachne and Arachnoids) in the same area, rather than separating them. If it is still not clear enough that they are not within the same family, I may break the groups up again. However, I really don't want the primary index of the bestiary to get much longer, nor do I want to separate it onto multiple pages (I find it rather difficult to find a specific creature in the Puddleopedia, for example, with its tiered layout).

I have started a separate thread in this forum detailing the creature families that are known.

Very little progress has been made on restructuring the bestiary, and none on giving more detailed descriptions of a monster's strength (aside from rewording some entries).
