I have decided to fund a bard competition because I like music so much (I have over 13 000 songs on my iTunes).

Anyway, myself and hopefully some fellow members of my clan (SDC) will judge performaces by trios of bards. I am also hoping that I can get one or two judges from other clans (volunteers are welcome, ss me in the lands or pm here).

I will be personally donating 5250c to prizes. If my clan decides to match my donation, that will put 10.5k up for grabs. There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize to be split between the three trio members.

Prizes are as follows:
6000c for 1st place - 2000c per musician.
3000c for 2nd place - 1000c per musician.
1500c for 3rd place - 500c per musician.

The rules are as follows:
1. No individual musican may play in more than one trio.
2. Three songs will be played by each trio. Two may be previously composed, but one must be new. All can be new if the trio wishes.
3. A drum must be a component in at least one song.
4. Once a song is played, it cannot be played by another trio, so make sure you folks coordinate your efforts.

Further details will be provided as they become available, this may include rule changes so check this post occasionally.

The competition will take place on October 28 at 1pm EST in the Bard Grove.

I should mention that all entries must either post the names of those in their trio here, inform me by ss in the lands or pm with the names. This must be done one month before the competition (September 28th). If no attempt is made to inform me by this date then your group will be disqualified.

3 songs from the trio? Don't you think that's a tad too much considering how long it takes to make each song? Why not reduce that to one song from each trio?

It says only one must be new but how many bards have sat down with two others to write trios? i cant imagine that every team who wants to enter will have access to 2 trios already and if they didnt write them as a team having them in the contest is a little redundant.

So yeah, go with one song each.

Sad times the Bard's Guild is in.

Some bards were a little confused about the contest, since it required the prize money to be split evenly between the 3 bards, even though only one may have written it.

Not only that, but bards have struggled for ages to form performance groups. What makes anyone think that it could happen now of all times (with the population being what it is), on Zynx' time, when historically bards can hardly do the same on their own time? As if scheduling auditions wasn't crazy enough (And finding auditionees)!

Not that I don't applaud him for trying, but this contest was doomed the moment it was conceived. Even the simpler contests have lately had very few entries. Ah well. I'm personally grateful that CL supported such a culture at all, and that we've had the chances to participate that we had.

There's still room for a lot of fun! But start a little smaller scale.
