The detailed rules:
Teams must have 3 to 5 exiles.
If you have trouble finding a team, contact the referee, and she will find one for you.
Teams must have a name. If your team cannot choose a name, or the referee does not approve of your name, the referee will choose one for you. Choose wisely, or you could wind up on the Flower Power iTeam.
Blowing It With The Winds will start and end at the bottom of the cliff in the myrm highlands. Time is from 2PM PDT on Saturday, July 15th to 2PM PDT on Sunday, July 16th. Team members are not required to be at the opening or closing, but only coins earned between these times count.
During the contest team members must stay together when out of library. When hunting, teams can hunt with other exiles or even other teams, but only the coins collected by the team members themselves count.
Coins for the contest must be earned; donations do not count.
Any method of earning coins is allowed, including hunting, payment/tips for services, selling/auctioning of items, gambling, etc.
Any materials used to earn coins (items for sale, ingredients for crafting, coins used to place bets, etc.) must be found during the contest, or purchased with coins earned during the contest. Nothing already in a player's possession when the contest begins may be used. One exception: repair supplies for tailoring or blacksmithing may be used, BUT the cost of the supplies must be deducted from any coins earned.
All sales, auctions or other transactions must be completed before the contest ends (note that this precludes the use of the raffle tables).
At the end of the contest, teams will turn their coins in to the referee. Teams do not have to present at the closing ceremonies, you may turn in your coins early, or have them passed on by an authorized third party (contact the referee for authorization). You may not turn in coins after the closing ceremony.
During the contest, the referee will occasionally poll the teams about their coin totals and post the standings by SS. When the referee is in the library, teams should send periodic updates by enchanted mail, particularly when team members take a break in the library.
Do NOT announce your total in any public forum. Only relative standings of the teams will be made public while the contest is in progress.
Prizes are as follows:
First prize-- 25% of all coins collected for the contest
Second prize-- 12%
Third prize-- 6%
Fourth prize--3%
Special Referee’s Prize: 2500 coins to ALL teams that beat the total of the team on which the referee participated in the last contest, 18855 coins.
Any questions concerning the rules should be addressed to this year's referee, Delirium.
Teams compete at their own risk. Winds of Dawn is not liable for falling, departing, lyfing, broken chains, or any other unfortunate events. If you find yourself in a difficult situation, the referee might try to arrange a rescue, particularly if you bribe her (she is fond of wine).
If you want to participate, post here, or contact the referee or another WoD member.
Note: these rules are based on the experiences of 6 previous contests. The first five were only open to WoD members and friends. Last time, we opened it up a bit more, and this time we are throwing it open to everyone who wants to play. This is how we have funded a large portion of the generous prizes we give out at the Newbielympics. More details about the Newbielympics (like the dates) will be available later, but we plan to hold them sometime in the OOC fall, before the feast of Tsirrin. We will be asking for help hosting events, so if you would like to run an event at the Newbielympics, let us know!
