Heya Folks

Myself and Veer and trying to organize an expedition to the lands of the new orga tribe beyond Lake Leonin. For those who do know not where Lake Leonin is, it is a new area, recently discovered, beyond the waterfall in the slime cave in the SE corner of the East Forest (just W of S pass). The new orga area is heavy on lightning and thus we require the services of about 8 good rodding healers and about 6-8 strong fighters. These are minimum requirements and more are welcome to join us. This new orga territory is completely unexplored and checking out new places is always fun, so please come and join us.

The date for the expedition is tenatively Saturday, January 21st at sometime between 4 and 7pm PST.

More exact details will become available as the expedition organizes itself, any changes in time or date will be posted here.

BEER!

That is incorrect. Hippy Hallow, as it has been called (I believe 'an old clearing' is the proper name), was explored awhile back by PAG. I thought Veer had taken a group there before as well, though I could be wrong on that one. PAG found nothing of significance there, though that's not to say that we may have missed something. Enjoy your expedition! :)

There have been groups that have gone there. Why do we have to try naming something after an exile? Most of the names exiles have come up with that have stuck, have been more descriptive, Wisher's Gate (with its double meaning) being an exception, as well as Alchemist's Folly. (Well that one rolls off the tongue.) Kitty Beach, Hatreds' Hollow, Camp Dred, Dredwood, and the Orga Outback, all were named by exiles. Can we think of something better?

In an effort to confuse new players (and oldies) and thus create a need for web sites listing acronymes I suggest Old Orga Clearing, or OOC for short.

Heya Folks

I find it somewhat astounding that someone would take such offence to something being named after its finder(s). I think whoever finds something first should a. have it named after them or b. decide what it should be called, it seems only fair to me. It should be noted that every snell in snaggy is named after someone who did or still does clan. However, if we are to give this area a new name, i suggest Orga Outlands or OOL.

Lake Leonin is fine as a name, mostly because its easy to confuse with Lundar's Lake.

Er it's not named after an exile. It's named after a post where I asked for new types of orga. And as a joke I said "Hippy Orga." Someone in the first exploration group to successful conquer it suggest Hippy Hollow. And that name stuck.

Oh wait, you're talking about "Lake Leonin" .... Hehe, sorry. I kinda' like that name.

Um, Hey Forensic Grammatician! Can I have a ruling on the ellipses indicating omision outside of the quotes? I think if they were inside it would indicate that the lake had a longer name. Like "Lake Leonin But Lorikeet Wants To Call It 'Slime Slough' Because She Doesn't Like Things Named After Exiles."

Eh, neither name works for me at the moment. (Maybe I just need more time.) With the beach theme, and the intense lightning, I suggest we name the area "Weenie Roast".

Unless I'm mistaking your meaning, those ellipses are indicating a trailing off rather than an omission, and as such they belong outside the quotes.

They would probably be more properly started immediately after the closing quotation marks rather than leaving a space between. And of course, ellipses traditionally consist of three dots rather than four, though that could reasonably be considered a typographical convention rather than a grammatical guideline.

Three dots for the ellipses then one for the period.

Jannar's Grove, as well. I kinda like naming places after people when there's a history to it, and like that the name keeps the story (or a horrible bastardization of it) alive after the person is gone. I think we should be able to come up with something more creative than Place 1, Place 2, Place 3 ... ad nauseam.

Hear!Hear!
New Old East North West South Shitwood #17. What a bunch of losers we are.

When a new area is opened it should prompt for suggestions from the next 20 exiles to go there. Put those options in a voting booth in town. Let the players pick one. Invalid options would include the words, New, Old, any cardinal direction, any number. If you suggest that, you lose the option.

Unfortunately, most of us come from stock that has a million places named, "York" or "Lincoln". We really aren't very creative.

I always understood it this way...

The lake was Lake Leonin, and the area where I have died and never survived yet, is called Hippie Hallow. I am told you can get to Hippie Hallow by way of South pass, and thereby avoiding Lake Leonin if you want.

I don't have to call it anything, but if you are going to call something "Hippie Hallow" please make it "Hippie Hollow" because "hallow" is a verb meaning "render sacred" and "hollow" is "an indented or concave surface or area." [see Hatreds' Hollow]
