Why can't Rockodile Armor be repaired? Can this be outlined... not just a simple because it can't.

Someone should be able to repair it if it can made in the first place.

OOC or is this the original ipod battery syndrome?

What sort of answer are you looking for?

IC: Rockodile leather tends to shred along the grain. As it takes damage from a beast's claws or an enemy's blade, it acquires rips and tears. Attempting to stitch those tears back together only weakens the armor further by adding more needle holes at the new seams. Similarly, adding patches to cover the tears doesn't provide effective protection anymore, because the patch leather doesn't bond well to the torn pieces beneath.

OOC: After discussion and consideration, we decided that it would be an interesting and fun addition to the game. Not everything has to work the same way. Some things last forever, some are consumable, some can be repaired, and some simply wear out and need to be replaced. Generally speaking, the ones that wear out, whether they're repairable or not, have other compensating advantages (they can be stronger than similar things that would last forever).

My assumption was that this was suppose to be a way for new folks and/or healers and mystics to get the advantage of armor because they couldn't really afford to buy "real" armor. Now you have taken it and made it useless to those of us who can't afford to have to replace it every couple of weeks as it wears... Another useless implementation of a great original idea.

Just because something isn't useful to you doesn't mean it's useless.

As of v420, you get the iron metal back (not iron ore as it used to be), so all you have to is get a copper ingot and new leather from a Roc to make a new one (also free). I was told that people can't seem to give away copper now. To me, this is a very cheap way of getting and keeping armor.
That seems very reasonable. As the Metal is the most expensive piece.

Thanks E!

It also lasts much longer then a week. I've had rocko armor on I think since the 2nd or 3rd day that it was implemented. I have had it wear only twice, I have a little loovma, but been through DC, PC, SC, deep toks, and Sarra all during this time. Only 2 times wearing throughout all of that. I think it might wear a bit less then the other armors.

I'm very happy with rockodile armor, even more so now that I know I'll get my iron back. Any chance of getting rockodile shinguards, elbow pads, hoods, gloves, shoes, etc.?

Have I already asked if it could be made dyeable? It would make for some interesting color combinations.

Thanks to Ann and Eldon for at least explaining. I have no issues with it tearing and not repairable but at least now I have a definite answer.

Getting the iron metal back is a major plus and just makes sense that you would at least be able to use the buckling and fasteners again.

You mean you get iron back now???

Geeze.. this means you just supply the copper(easy to get!) and rockodile leather(also easy to get!) and bam.. brand new armor again!

To all the folks so down on the seemingly non-repairableness(and made-upedness of words) of rockodile armor, look at it this way.. it IS indeed fully repairable. You need only supply a few components to fix it instead of coins.. ingredients not coins!.. how cool is that?? its something you can actively collect and store so your armor keeps going and going and going...

This has finally put a real use to copper.

Thank you Eldon.

Thanks Eldon! Sounds perfect to me. G'day mates! T'day we're gonna wrestle crocs and I'm gonna jamb my thumb up it's bum. Crikey, that'll piss it off! Then we're gonna rip its skin right off and wear it around town. Cor, look at that one! What a beaut! I wonder if there are any bigger ones around.
