And thus the cost is actually 0! Free fishing poles! What will the game come to when fun things are theoretically free and infinitely rewarding?

I love you Eldon, honest I do.
You people are funny. Thank goodness you don't work at my company where we have to frequently make cost/benefit analysis decisions.

I could see it now: "But we paid $1,000 for that 20 years ago and it broke yesterday! It's crap!"

Heya Folks

Time is the key here Seld, no one is going to spend 4 hours a day making infinite coins on fishing. Not unless it's their only choice. So you don't need to worry.

Time, time...time.........time........................

Maybe have poles be permanent and have fishing line? Poles cost 100c (maybe make it 200c) but getting your pole restrung costs 20c at the same NPC. The pole would still "break" as often, but it would only cost 20c to fix.h

Eh… It's more like, "We paid $1000 dollars for that three days ago and it broke after two days." It's not like people are recouping their funds on the fishing rods which is, for some, the entire point.

I think the CL equivalent would be more like, "But we paid $10,000 for that 2 days ago and we've already had it break down 3 times, costing us an additional $5,000!"

Heyas!

I've done more then my fair share of fishing, and it simply isn't profitable because the cost and breakage of the poles is simply more than the fish you can catch.

Know I don't think the rods need to break less or cost less. I wanna see a larger varity of fish the bring in more than 1c.

we need fish to be worth more.
-so either have the fishmonger pay more for certain fish or even use a supply and demand script like the NPC in north town that buy all the bubbles Bumgle sells.

-Have rarer fish worth more( like flingerlings but better)
-Deep sea fish that can only be caught on the Boat to peaction.
-Peacton fish that are worth more in Puddleby and viceversa
-Have fish become ingredience in stuff Potions, food, drink.

Thank all of you who iffered me coins to buy a new pole, I really appreciate it. However, the reason why I do fish is because I don't want to be taking handouts, I want to earn my keep. Fishing is nice because I can make enough coin to pay for library fees, mailbox rental, and other small expences. I wouldn't want it to become something that becomes super profitable and change the face of the game.

The reason why I dislike the fact that they break (or break way too often) is that it forces me to spend more time fishing than I would like too because I have to make up the 100 coins. Fishing is fine for a little while to make some coins, but I don't like spending hours doing it. Fishing gets dull after a while and I think that this makes it unlikely enough that it won't be abused that fishing pole breakage isn't neccesery.

Dude, take the money and run! If you can pull this off every 4 months or so you'll make more than fishing will ever provide. Give a man a fish blablabla, teach him how to whine to the press about the government...

"Why the hell am I renting? It makes far more sense to just buy the place outright."

"What do you mean I can't store any of my property in my apartment?"

"So what you're telling me is, if I want to learn anything at all about how your product works, I have to buy it? And I can't return it for a refund?"

Although the previous break chance was easily low enough to allow people to make money by fishing, contradicting most of the speculation and wild exaggeration in this thread, I've just lowered it to less than half its previous rate. It's also still affected by Loovma training, as it always has been.

It would have been a lot more fun to do that if people hadn't turned a reasonable request into (yet another) bitch-fest. (Granted, others gave some excellent suggestions, for which I thank you.)

And yes, I'm grumpy today.
