The Clan Lord Sentinel

If you play Clan Lord under Windows (or if you used to play, have an active account, and would play again if you had a client), you are eligible to become a beta tester for the Clan Lord Windows client developed by the fine folks at Arindal, if you're quick.

The client is in its final stages of testing, and we expect that we'll be able to release it to everybody pretty soon. For the moment, though, we're running a closed beta test. That is, you send me some information about yourself and your system, I'll pick a number of people to be testers, and I'll send them information about how to get the client.

Since the client is so close to release, we don't have a lot of time for testing. I'll be accepting applications by email this weekend.

Here's what I want to know:

1. Real name

2. Age

3. Clan Lord character name(s)

4. Windows machine(s) you'll be using it on: speed, RAM, Windows version, sound and video cards, anything else you think matters

5. How long you've been playing Clan Lord

6. How long you've been playing Clan Lord under Windows

7. Whether you've been using the Java client, an emulator, or both

8. How much you play

9. Whether you use macros a lot or a little, and whether you write your own complicated ones, your own simple ones, or none of your own

10. How and where you generally play. I'm looking for a wide variety of play styles here: people who heal or fight or mystify, people who chat in town, people who wander the NWF, people who go get hit with lightning and webs, people who play or listen to bard music, ...

11. Anything else you think I should know

To all who are testing the Windows client:

If at all possible, please record a movie of any bugs you encounter and send it to me with your bug report. If you can't manage that, a screenshot would also be helpful. This includes any bugs you've already reported, since none of them came with movies or screenshots yet.

I understand that making a movie may be very difficult for some intermittent bugs, but it's even more difficult for the Windows client developers to track down the problems without seeing them themselves. We appreciate your help.

We don't have a v416 Windows client yet. I've asked the Arindal developers for one, but I don't know whether they want to continue the testing right now, or when they'll be ready to release the client permanently. I'll let you know when I hear anything.

I'm pleased to announce that we have another Windows client to test for v418. Current testers should have received an email with the download link.

Please remember to make movies of any problems you find (including any that you reported before but didn't have a movie of), or at least take screenshots. Thanks!
