Well, we've lived with the new changes to the karma system for a while now, but the experiment has done nothing but frustrate many players—even players that don't mind bad karma.
Please note: I'm not a player that minds having a red name. But please read on.
Red Karma Names
The color served a purpose, once. As another poster once pointed out, characters with a red name were players that either negatively antagonized other players or players that were involved with some controversy.
But no more. Red now means any regular Joe with a few bad karma. It does nothing to inform other players of a character's infamy.
Blue Karma Names
It's sort of a nice idea on paper, but this change actually harms the game.
When characters with a blue name become hurt and display a yellow name background, I have a lot of trouble telling the difference between them and players with white name backgrounds. Sure, if everyone stands still I can see the difference, but battles aren't conducted standing still. This optical problem wastes time as I play, causes me to ignore characters that need healing.
And the blue remains garish, clashing with most players' outfits.
If I had the option, I'd suppress my client's ability to detect blue karma names.
The changes are so poor, so hurtful, that I've stopped using the Karma system altogether—this, after nearly 6 years of supporting the brilliant and cooky karma system. We're trying to get more people to play Clan Lord right now, right? The karma experiments aren't helping.
All karma is deserved, unless it makes one's name blue. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
