If anyone who checks this forum is wondering why it's become even more dead lately than it's been for the last couple years, the answer is that everyone moved on to Discord.

It's certainly part of it, because there is often discussion on Discord, although of course the number of people isn't huge.

Right. I'm just thinking that the conversation moved, not "everyone". But at some point it will probably be asserted as everyone when something gets "decided".

I haven't seen anyone make an effort to "decide" anything. I think this was just information in case anyone didn't know about it.

I guess I read it differently. All the Sentinel members should go to discord, but Vagile should keep it around for bookkeeping.

If it was just a Discord invite, something like "hey, check out the conversation at Discord <link>".

YMMV.

I view discord as a chat function. Forums are better for long term conversations and meaningful correspondence.

It will be a sad day if sites like the sentinel go away.

Maeght can you please ask Vagile to dump the post history DB so that you can calculate whether the acceleration in the rate of posting since Discord started (±Feb 1 2017) was significant? Thanks that'd be amazing.

I think meaningful correspondence stopped a long time ago when Reckinyards and Maeght started posting the majority of posts in the Sentinel.

I think plenty of people have posted meaningfully in that time period.

And maybe the conversation has moved to Discord. Hopefully people are finding value there too.

I just think it was pretty thoughtless to essentially declare the Sentinel dead, post an ad *on the Sentinel* to hasten that death, and then suggest Vagile keep making an effort because you find the record keeping function of residual value.

I yearn for the pre icq days when we were all but forced to communicate within game.
With a nod to comp/sys/mac/adventure

(I also yearn for the days when I knew my passwords and when my back was in not so-horrible shape)

It's still good to post useful stuff here on the Sentinel in my opinion.
Discord is good for quick chat, but not great for organised discussions.

I'd just like to put voices to avatars.

I've known most people here for years in game. Just curious to what they'd be like in an actual conversation.
