Warning.. it's quite big (1-2MB)
Only for people like Silky and Mujin who are single-player clans... I watched someone in Open Hands pull out literally 101 alts (like actually 101, I counted in text logs) late at night one time. Many of his alts aren't on this list, I checked a handful — I guess they're out so briefly and so rarely that they don't appear on the status feed and they're not scrubbed into this dataset. Actually, how do you get the character clothing info, Squib?Icy wrote:Pretty neat way to check who is getting the most ranks from clan exp. Silky in the lead with 72?
Eh... if this list took out the clan names, then there would really be zero relevant information here except to say "this character has been logged on for at least 5 minutes at least once since the time since Squib started collecting the XML feed", which IMO is interesting/useful. I saw a lot of names that I thought had quit, but probably our OOC times just never intersect. Worf's list—which I guess you're referring to—also included clanning times (both count of time and specific date).Mac wrote:I've said it before and I'll say it again... These kinds of lists, and the information you can infer from their existence/creation, shouldn't exist. I've never once seen a valid reason for them or their use. Nor have I ever seen an explanation of how they enrich people's enjoyment of the game. This kind of stuff reminds me of years ago when certain people, who ran CL related websites, were collecting information on their users (like say alt names) and then abusing or releasing that information to the detriment of the players (namely players who the administers had problems with).
I imagine its like turning on too many cheat modes. After awhile it stops being fun to play when you can instagib hordes and get nothing new from it.Org du Lac wrote:(Oddly, Mujin seems to have dropped out of her Christmas Tree clan, on that note.)
Sorry, I wasn't intending to imply that you were going to do the things listed, only that I've seen people abuse this type of information in the past and that I see zero positives (game play enriching) benefits to tracking/sharing the information. Icy and Org are kinda making my point for me by bagging on Mujin, who has helped countless exiles gain thousands of ranks over many years of game play (for no reason other than possibly jealousy).thesquib wrote:First of all, this was merely an aside from something I wanted to do for the Rank Tracker (which was to give the player a visual of their character when they login). This is working well I hope, and it doesn't require me to collect login times or whatever else is theoretically possible to record.
To address your comments Mac, I don't want to cause angst or problems in anyway and I agree generally with what you have said. I thought of it more like a hall of fame, membership list, or a semi-interesting view on who's been around. Showing up this practice of using clan exp in this way was unintended and I apologise for that.
I don't think there was anything surprising here - if some of the posts on the Sentinel are anything to go by. Even so, it's not my intent to expose anything or anyone.
