Increase Auction House Timers

The auction house was very popular for ages -- by far the longest lived of the "functional" houses in town except for storage (e.g. compared to court or post office or voting etc).

Right now it only sees activity when people stop paying their storage fees and all their items go on sale. However, it was active for many years for ore, kudzu bags, RHPs, ulis, metal, etc. I recall it only really dying down in the past year or two years.

One way to bring it back might be to add much longer timers for how long items stay up there. Right now I think it's 2 days, maybe 3? What if we tripled the amount of time an item stays up, i.e. such that everyone has a chance to see it? And if the auction house was populated by GMs for a month or two as a "stimulus" while people get used to using it again? i.e. just stick a bunch of RHPs and metal there, and maybe one flagship item like an announcement token to get people in the door.

As someone who used to do quite a lot of trading in CL, the problem that I always saw with the AH was that the amount of coppers you got from any given auction was usually less than what you would receive if you outright sold the item (between the AH "cut" and the number of tickets sold). The only time I ever saw this to not be true was in the case of some rarer items (but not super rare) or when the playerbase was very high and super active (and it was debatable in this instance). If any significant changes are made, it's like to see them address this problem (I've always preferred the idea of a market system).

That being said, I have no issue with the suggestions Org made as quality of life changes.

What CL could benefit from the most right now would simply be brokers who you could give an item to, set a cost, and then it would sell when someone bought it, no matter the length of time.

Also, I might just be losing my mind, but I swear I've put stuff up for raffle, then come back a RL month or so later and they seem to have forgotten I sold it. Maybe chaos storms screw with this?

I have noticed the same thing. I stopped putting stuff up for auction because it seemed hit or miss. At first I thought maybe I forgot which char. put it up for auction. However that doesn't seem right. Unless I create and delete alts in my sleep.

I like this idea of setting a price. Perhaps a new consignment room could be added so someone like Geo could farm zu and sell full bags for whatever price moves them. Also, common found items could be put up for sale between exiles instead of selling them vendors like in the brewery.

Should there be a limit to the number of items up for sale? I’d say no. Maybe items over a limit of say 32 would be discounted a certain percentage set by the house based on the number of similar items in the market, or the exile could stipulate a time to discount them and a rate at which to discount them if under the 32 item limit?

Meaning an exile could specify a discount for each item:
“unsold after a month: discount 10%, 2 months: 20%, 3 months: 50%” for an orgaberry cluster.
and
“discounted 10% every year unsold”

This would cause the market to settle on the best price with oldest items selling first.

It’s a great idea. Now if only a GM would like to implement it, or at least add it to their big queue :)

Yeah, while it'd be nice to have, I feel that are still bigger fish that need frying, like the lack of any form of acceleration for new players.
