So far, aside from one person changing their "Yes" vote to "Other", it would seem fairly clear a permanent two-way shortcut to Camp Dred would be a welcome addition. I've also yet to hear a player in-game that is opposed to the idea.
To restate, for over a decade Camp Dred has been a hub area. So much so that until recently most players took this for granted. As a result, many peak hour players and to a greater degree many off-peak hour players have come to rely on easy access to Camp Dred.
Simply adding a two-way shortcut would satisfy just about everyone. Players who want to move the portal could do so, without affecting those players who need/want access to Camp Dred.
In case it wasn't obvious, it doesn't have to be a Drake Ride. I used that as an example because it's an existing element in the game, and could be readily purposed without any major area or mechanic reworks.
An even simpler option could be adding a two-way PF path connecting the Meadow (or some other "safe" and easily accessible area) to Camp Dred. Preferably, this would require no more than full Marsh Hermit training.
This is one of those rare opportunities where a GM could settle a dispute/problem with a relatively simple solution that would satisfy the vast majority of players, and as a bonus would end up adding some more variety to the game.
This doesn't need to be a "hard" choice. In fact it could be a simple choice. Pick fun over frustration. Everyone wins.
