Green Portal Location

From PWC Salandra:

Recently the Green Portal has been moved around a lot and people are having trouble finding it. I'd like to open a discussion on relocating the Green Portal's "permanent" location and make an argument on why it would be better to have it located in west Puddleby (by the boats) than it is to have it in south Puddleby.

Please see the following page for a full explanation of why (and where) it should be kept on west Puddleby.

Green Portal Location Explanation

The only other thing I would like to add is that the Green Portal will be moved to the South Estuary because requests for access to the Eastern Mountains (via the cloud) are very frequent. This suggestion is intended to make it easier to move to that location and more likely that people will move it back to Puddleby (because of the shorter distance several minutes versus 20 to 30 minutes).

For the time being, I will endeavor to keep the Green Portal in the location shown on that page. Please use this thread to discuss this topic.

I'd like to see it stay at est docks If all have mirror access. I have my greedy reasons. I'm sure it's not a prime spot tho for some.

I agree with the move.

It is logical, it doesn't really change anything for foothills/slates hunters, and so long as the community is notified (with like signs in the garden, and posts on koppi, and probably a post in Facebook group) there really shouldn't be an issue.

I think this is a great idea and only adds to the community since jumping into places is now very doable.

I don't mind if it's kept in the hut by west Puddleby (too bad if someone wants an anchor though!) but hanging along the west ocean or in South Estuary by the dock is really a pain for our hunts. It's not really out of the way there. Easy to get stuck in it.

I agree with the suggestion. I don't know almost anything about portal moving, but the argument seems very reasonable.

*oops this wasn't in Suggestion Box; oh well it still seems like a good suggestion!

PWC Salandra:

To address some of the comments here,

The hut that was chosen was the hut with the "exchange" merchants. Despite being slightly farther away, I thought it would be least used by people who wanted access to the NPCs.

I agree that the Estuary docks location is not optimal for people getting past the portal, but short of building an actual docks (maybe even safe hut where you "landed" from the ocean - with a side room for the portal) there really isn't an optimal location that is not far away from the boat NPC. Being close to that NPC is important because it's often left to mystics (or weaker alts) to help return the Green Portal back to west Puddleby after the main group of people has jumped from the Cloud. Ideally, and to the best of my knowledge since this has been suggested, the Green Portal has been moved back to west Puddleby as soon as it can be to help avoid this problem.

None of us knows if the portal is there, and when we land on it and wind up in CD we are none too pleased. But I've never wanted to move it back for fear of ruining someone else's fun. Even if we know it's there, someone usually winds up in it. It's mostly annoying.

Let's move the portal to frog village or BP hill top

Yes, because making unsuspecting mirror users pay for a boat home isn't enough. Make them depart! Is this a serious idea? The portal has to be near town so that people don't get stuck between CD and a hard place.

As for the original suggestion, while I do think that the portal not being in its traditional location is only a minor annoyance, too many people don't read these forums or Koppi. Even with all the publicity in the past weeks that it has been moved, I still see a lot of people asking where it is. I don't personally care, but keep in mind that it has pissed people off, and it will keep pissing people off for years to come.

Yes it's a serious suggestion. Just move the portal that's in CD to frog village or BP hilltop if you still want two way capability.

I guess that's reasonable, but you're trading access to a low level hunting area for a high level hunting area. Foothills is hunted fairy often.

No it won't. It will take once or twice for each person individually to sunstone it and then remember. If the portal moves every week, that's irritating, if it moves once every five years, that's fine. If it pisses people off "for years to come" that the portal has moved from a building in south town to a building in west town, I wonder how those people can even remember their password or characters' name with such advanced Alzheimer's.

As for moving the portal in CD to moved to frog village or bison plains, this would depend on how many people really hunt Dredwood or Foothills anymore, as it's essentially impossible to get to Camp Dred without the portal (unless there's a Trillbane shortcut I'm not aware of).

Even though reaching CD is a cake walk now, it still takes navigating OOB and many many snells to reach, and would add about 15–30 minutes to reach the Noid Caves. FH is good coining and the areas around the waterfall snell are a good place to earn chests with a light group and learn to handle lightning. Basically CD is a good waypoint to the Northeastern side of the island and that is why the portal had been there so long. Moving it from the garden to the hut to facilitate cloud positioning is not a big deal considering it's still 1 snell away from TC.

Landing in the portal at the docks only slows me down since I take no damage from it, but it can be lethal to those without mentus if they happen to get luck hit while frozen in CD. So, while we are on the subject, I would request that those moving the portal place it out of the landing zone (off the dock and on the north east edge just past the first tree line) so people don’t run into it when entering the south estuary.

It's not reasonable because the portal is well used by people hunting dredwood, noids, and wendies. The point of moving the portal was to allow the cloud to be moved so people could jump into their preferred hunt areas. I think that's enough already. Let the the little guys and the skinners have their fun too.
